The Village of Merton, Wisconsin is in Waukesha County, 20 miles west of Milwaukee in Southeastern Wisconsin. At the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,926. It is located partially within the Town of Merton.

Conveniently located in the Lake Country region, Merton is a quiet community where you can raise your family in a rural setting and a great place to live for any outdoor enthusiast. Like much of Southeastern Wisconsin, the area around Merton had been home to native Americans for centuries prior to European immigration. In 1840, Mr. William O'Dell had the only home built of logs in what is today the Village of Merton. The main street was a dry-wash gully and all the countryside was beautifully timbered with hardwood trees. The Bark River was winding its way towards the Rock River in much the same way it does today except there wasn't a dam or millpond. In those times, such lake areas were still hidden jewels in the deep forest.

In 1922, the Village of Merton was incorporated with a population of 257. The first president was William West Brown. The board consisted of two trustees, a clerk, treasurer, assessor and constable and a justice of the peace. The village proper was Main Street and a small section of Huntington Street then called Pigtail Alley to the west. Today the village is a thriving recreational setting with growing upscale resident and vacationing populations.
